MPD arrest felon

February 22, 2012

Feb. 17, around 11:25 a.m. Corporal Joseph Paull, MPD K-9 Officer was on Patrol in the area of East Page and McNeal Streets. He observed a White Jeep Cherokee traveling west on East Page. The vehicle displayed an Arkansas License Plate that showed the registration to be expired.
Cpl. Paull began to follow the vehicle. He ran the license plate through 911 dispatch to confirm it was expired.
While waiting for the return the vehicle turned into the parking area next to the Ritz Movie Theater on Main Street.

Jr. Babe Ruth registration underway

The Hot Spring County Junior Babe Ruth baseball league will be signing players for the upcoming season at 2 p.m. Saturday at the ballfield.
The league is for players ages 13-15. The sign-up fee is $60.
The league is also in need of umpires.

T-Ball registration underway

The Boys Club of Malvern and Hot Spring County is registering players for the upcoming T-ball season.
Registrations are being held from 12-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, now through Friday, March 9. Dues and fees are to be paid at registration and players will need a copy of their birth certificate for verification.
T-ball is for boys and girls playing ages 4-6. Playing age is the age of the child on April 30, 2012.
There will be a 4-year-old league and a 5 and 6-year-old combined league.
Potential coaches must apply and attend the organizational meeting in late March.

City Council condemns homes

The Malvern City Council met last night in Malvern City Hall. The meeting was postponed from the regular scheduled meeting on Monday, Feb. 13, due to inclement weather.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Steve Northcutt and Alderman Mary Fraction gave the invocation. All aldermen were present. The minutes from the January meeting were approved as written.

The Malvern Lady Leopards were upended by Pulaski Academy in the championship game of Saturday's district tournament at Malvern High School. The Lady Leopards will enter the regional tournament at Dumas High School as a No. 2 seed. The Malvern senior boys will be there as well, as a No. 3 seed.

The Bismarck Lady Lions came up short in the district tournament championship game at Bismarck High School, but still earned a No. 2 seed in the upcoming regional tournament at Prescott High School. The Bismarck senior boys also qualified for the regional tournament as a No. 4 seed.

The Magnet Cove Panthers and Poyen Lady Indians each earned a No. 1 spot in the Regional Tournament to be held at Magnet Cove High School this week. The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers and Poyen Indians earned No. 2 seeds.

HSC Medical Center’s fundraiser livens up

The HSC Medical Foundation has added another reason to attend this year’s HSC Medical Center’s annual fundraiser with the donation of a Dodge pickup by Malvern Ford dealer Dale Horn to be auctioned off.
The HSC Medical Foundation is gearing up for their annual fundraiser to benefit HSC Medical Center. This year the event will be a “Toast and Roast of The Honorable Judge John W. Cole” on March 3 at 6:30 p.m.
The evening will include dinner and both a silent and a live auction to liven up the action.
