The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers were just a few seconds away from doing something they couldn’t do last season — defeat Spring Hill.
The 2012-2013 Magnet Cove senior girls squad put together a months-long winning streak last season book-ended by losses to Spring Hill.
The Lady Panthers lost to Spring Hill twice in December last year and did not lose again until they faced the Lady Bears in the 2A state tournament.

Last week’s winter weather caused all sorts of havoc with athletics (and just about everything else) in the state of Arkansas.
The high school playoffs were postponed for a week, which if you are a football fan is good news because the season will last another week.
Because the playoffs were delayed, this week there are two Games of the Week.
The first has been touched on already, and that is Friday night’s Class 3A semifinal playoff game between the Glen Rose Beavers and the Smackover Buckaroos.
Bobby V. Mathews, age 73, of Malvern passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at his home.
The Malvern Lady Leopards kept their record perfect Tuesday night with a 53-27 drubbing of the Sylvan Hills Lady Bears from the 5A Classification.
Malvern was not tested much in this game, which was their first in a week because of bad weather (they were scheduled to play in a tournament at Mena last week but icy conditions forced its cancellation).
The Lady Leopards did what they do best, which is bombard Sylvan Hills with pressure defense and convert turnovers to points.
By the end of the first quarter, with Malvern leading 14-3, it was easy to see which way this game was going.
