Last Thursday, the Glen Rose Beavers and Lady Beavers hosted Abundant Life, with both of the local teams coming away with big wins.
The Lady Beavers breezed their way through the Lady Owls by the score of 53-15.
Head coach Chris Smith said the team struggled in the beginning of the game on both sides of the ball.
“But after that we started to show some life,” Smith said.
Glen Rose led 15-6 after one quarter and pushed that lead to 29-8 at the half.
The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers were just a few seconds away from doing something they couldn’t do last season — defeat Spring Hill.
The 2012-2013 Magnet Cove senior girls squad put together a months-long winning streak last season book-ended by losses to Spring Hill.
The Lady Panthers lost to Spring Hill twice in December last year and did not lose again until they faced the Lady Bears in the 2A state tournament.
In the championship game of the Summit Bank Shootout Wednesday night, the Lady Panthers had a chance to change that, but came up a couple of seconds short in a 49-48 loss.

Last week’s winter weather caused all sorts of havoc with athletics (and just about everything else) in the state of Arkansas.
The high school playoffs were postponed for a week, which if you are a football fan is good news because the season will last another week.
Because the playoffs were delayed, this week there are two Games of the Week.
The first has been touched on already, and that is Friday night’s Class 3A semifinal playoff game between the Glen Rose Beavers and the Smackover Buckaroos.
Bobby V. Mathews, age 73, of Malvern passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at his home.
The Malvern Lady Leopards kept their record perfect Tuesday night with a 53-27 drubbing of the Sylvan Hills Lady Bears from the 5A Classification.
Malvern was not tested much in this game, which was their first in a week because of bad weather (they were scheduled to play in a tournament at Mena last week but icy conditions forced its cancellation).
The Lady Leopards did what they do best, which is bombard Sylvan Hills with pressure defense and convert turnovers to points.
By the end of the first quarter, with Malvern leading 14-3, it was easy to see which way this game was going.
Lewis H. “Buddy” Deer, age 82 of Malvern, died early this morning,Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at his home.
On Saturday, the Downtown Athletic Club will announce the winner of Heisman Memorial Trophy Award for the 79th time since its inception in 1935.
Considered one of, if not the most, prestigious individual awards in all of sports, the Heisman Trophy has become an event, stretching out the act of saying a name to an hour-long television show.
When things get warped to fit into that nice little televised viewing block with dozens of sponsorships, there is a bit of pressure to make sure the “right” people are invited to New York for the presentation.
Dewana Raquel Clegg-Clayton age 44 of Irving, TX formerly of Prattsville went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 7, 2013.
The ice storm of 2013 will go down as one of the more disruptive weather happenings in recent memory.
When the storm was making its way toward the state last week, the Arkansas Activities Association made the right decision in postponing all of the high school football playoffs for a week.
Providing the weather stays calm this week, the playoffs will resume on Friday for the 4A, 3A and 2A classifications and conclude for the 7A, 6A and 5A classifications.
