The Glen Rose School Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in the High School Library. The purpose of this meeting is the ongoing selection of the new superintendent.
Concerned citizens are encouraged to attend.
Malvern and Hot Spring County escaped damaging storms over the weekend, unlike the destruction a Sunday night tornado brought to Vilonia and Mayfllower. Barbara Key, administrative assistant to the Hot Spring County Judge, confirmed that Monday morning reports from personnel across the county indicated no local damage.
David Kizzia, 42, announced his campaign for State Representative today. Kizzia, serving in his first term as State Representative, said his campaign would focus on making state government more responsible and accountable, helping businesses preserve and create jobs, protecting our local hospital and strengthening our K-12 and junior college education.
â€śIt has been a great honor to serve the people of Malvern, Hot Spring County and Garland County. Iâ€™m running to ensure my son will have a first rate education that prepares him for the jobs of the future,â€ť Kizzia said. â€śWe must all do our part to continue growing our local economy, looking for new, innovative ways to draw on our manufacturing know how, so our children can plant their lives in Hot Spring and Garland counties as we have,â€ť Kizzia said.
Ernie Cox is the incumbent candidate for Hot Spring County Coroner. Â He was born and raised in Hot Spring County and graduated Malvern High School. Â After completing 1 1/2 years at Henderson State University, Cox was drafted into the US Army, serving two years as a medic, Chaplainâ€™s assistant and on the Whitecoat Project of USAMRID (United States Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases). With an Honorable discharge, Cox returned home to Malvern and worked eight months as an EMT for Hot Spring County Ambulance Service.
Sandra Kay Byrd Speer, age 65, of Poyen passed away at her home Thursday, April 24, 2014 after battling numerous health issues.

Wanda Ruth Tolbert, age 84, of Bismarck, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at her home.
Billy John Young, age 85, of Malvern passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.
Kattie Mae Bryant Haynes age 87 of Malvern, Arkansas went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Hot Spring County Medical Center Malvern, Arkansas with family by her bedside.
