BOONEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A convicted killer who escaped an Arkansas prison turned himself in to authorities Thursday after about three months on the run.

Arkansas Department of Correction spokeswoman Shea Wilson says inmate Timothy Buffington went to a home in western Arkansas on Thursday and asked the resident to call Booneville police so he could surrender.

Authorities had been searching an area in Logan and Sebastian counties after someone spotted Buffington and called law enforcement.

Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Shirron said there was a shooting in Hot Spring County shortly after midnight on Saturday, Sept. 13. A man was killed by an apparent single gunshot wound. Identification is pending notification of next of kin. Shirron said the body was sent to the crime lab for investigation. The MDR will release more information as it is made available.

Magnet Cove cross country has good showing

The Magnet Cove cross country teams traveled to Southern Arkansas University on Saturday, Sept. 13 for the Lois Davis Invitational.
The Magnet Cove Junior Panthers finished third out of nine teams and the Magnet Cove Junior Lady Panthers finished fourth overall.
Eighth grader Gabriel Stephens led the Junior Panthers by finishing ninth overall. Seventh grader William Mims finished 15th overall.
