Magnet Cove active shooter training set for Friday

The Magnet Cove School District will be conducting active shooter training for staff as well as law enforcement and other emergency personnel from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15 on the Magnet Cove campus.
There will be numerous law enforcement and emergency vehicles on campus this day. This is a proactive safety measure the district is taking to train employees and emergency responders, and should not cause concern for anyone seeing these vehicles or personnel on campus.

Arkadelphia murder suspect pleads guilty

August 8, 2014

Riakos Lizana changed his plea Friday morning to guilty of three counts of capital murder and one count of aggravated residential burglary.
Lizana was due for a pre-trial hearing. He admitted to the court that he entered Bobby Jean “Chino” Galbraith’s South 11th Street home on Dec. 6, 2012, with the intentions of committing theft. He additionally admitted to killing his two step-daughters, Adiele and Marley Crutchfield, ages 6 and 4, respectively.
He was sentenced to four life terms without the possibility of parole; those sentences will run consecutively.

Jones Mill Park: the liabilities

While jobs and money are both concerns related to tearing down the Jones Mill Industrial Park, those things at least have some tangibility to them. As far as jobs go, it is possible to know how many jobs are there and how many might leave. The local chamber of commerce and economic development corporation have resolved to help relocate any businesses that might be displaced by the demolition project, as Senator Alan Clark explained at the July 17 chamber of commerce breakfast meeting.
