REMINDER: SEN. MARK PRYOR'S MOBILE OFFICE IN TOWN TODAY

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor’s Mobile Office will continue its statewide tour to help Arkansans who may be having problems with the Veterans Administration, Social Security, or other services involving the federal government. Pryor invites Arkansans to visit with his staff in Malvern today (Wednesday, Oct. 8), 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.: Hot Spring County Chamber of Commerce, 213 W. 3rd St.

You're Invited to Our Birthday Party! The MDR is 98!

The Malvern Daily Record invites you to join in its 98th birthday celebration on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The MDR will serve hot dogs, birthday cake and other refreshments beginning at 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The event will be held in the parking lot by the MDR office, 219 Locust Street in Malvern. In addition to refreshments, stop by to register for prize giveaways. We will have two give-aways per hour from noon to 3 p.m.

UPDATED: One killed after tree fell on home

Recovery efforts are underway at the corner of Overman and Moore streets in Malvern where one person was killed after a tree fell on a home, according to reports.

The victim has been identified as Jonathan Cooper, age 28. A child in the home was rescued without injury, early reports say.

More information will be reported as it becomes available.

Breaking news: Malvern man charged in mall rape

The Hot Springs Police Department arrested a Malvern man who allegedly raped a woman inside her car on a mall parking lot on Monday, Sept. 22 at approximately 4:30 p.m. According to KARK, police have charged Larry Lavell Jones, 36, of Malvern, with rape, battery and robbery.

The MDR will post additional information as it is confirmed.

BOONEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A convicted killer who escaped an Arkansas prison turned himself in to authorities Thursday after about three months on the run.

Arkansas Department of Correction spokeswoman Shea Wilson says inmate Timothy Buffington went to a home in western Arkansas on Thursday and asked the resident to call Booneville police so he could surrender.

Authorities had been searching an area in Logan and Sebastian counties after someone spotted Buffington and called law enforcement.

Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Shirron said there was a shooting in Hot Spring County shortly after midnight on Saturday, Sept. 13. A man was killed by an apparent single gunshot wound. Identification is pending notification of next of kin. Shirron said the body was sent to the crime lab for investigation. The MDR will release more information as it is made available.
