Grant County Sheriff to resign

Grant County Sheriff Donald Ray Vance reportedly submitted a letter of resignation to Grant County Judge Kemp Nall, effective at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 18. Read more in the Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 MDR.

MDR seeks teachers, sponsors for N.I.E.

The Malvern Daily Record is seeking teachers and sponsors to participate in the newspaper’s annual Newspapers in Education (N.I.E.) program. Each school year, the MDR, with the help of community sponsors, sends about 75,000 newspapers into area classrooms, according to MDR Publisher Richard Folds.

Quorum Court approves transfers and positions

August 14, 2014

The Hot Spring County Quorum Court met Tuesday, Aug. 12 in regular session and approved several bills and resolutions. Among those, justices of the peace voted unanimously to transfer funds from the Unappropriated General Fund to a sheriff's department account. The funds transferred are actually from a check received from Gallagher Bassett insurance for damage to a 2008 Dodge Charger used by the sheriff's department.

Magnet Cove welcomes new superintendent, Danny Thomas

Magnet Cove School District will welcome a new superintendent for the 2014-2015 school year, Danny Thomas. The Magnet Cove School Board convened earlier in the year to look for prospective replacements for former superintendent Gail McClure, now retired. After much deliberation, on March 19 the board decided on Batesville native Danny Thomas.

Magnet Cove active shooter training set for Friday

August 13, 2014

The Magnet Cove School District will be conducting active shooter training for staff as well as law enforcement and other emergency personnel from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15 on the Magnet Cove campus.
There will be numerous law enforcement and emergency vehicles on campus this day. This is a proactive safety measure the district is taking to train employees and emergency responders, and should not cause concern for anyone seeing these vehicles or personnel on campus.
