Missing Forestry plane and pilot located

AP — An Arkansas Forestry Commission pilot who went missing with his plane last month while patrolling for wildfires was found dead Tuesday in the wreckage of the aircraft that may have clipped the trees or a rugged mountain itself, the agency said.

The commission said the plane was spotted at about 4 p.m. Tuesday by the Civil Air Patrol and was confirmed by a state police helicopter, with the body of Jake Harrell found by a member of the National Guard who was lowered to the crash site from a helicopter, according to commission spokeswoman Adriane Barnes.

Teacher arrested; investigation continues

Thelton Hughes, a sixth grade teacher at Wilson Intermediate School and a band assistant at Malvern High School, was arrested on charges of alleged first degree sexual assault and transporting a minor for prohibited sexual conduct, according to a probable cause affidavit filed on Feb. 4. Janet Blair, an assistant superintendent for the Malvern School District, said she could not discuss personnel matters as to whether Hughes was terminated or resigned, but she did confirm that he is no longer employed by the district.

HSC Schools Closed Tuesday, Feb. 4

Bismarck, Glen Rose, Magnet Cove, Malvern and Ouachita school districts will be closed due to inclement weather on Tuesday, Feb. 4. College of the Ouachitas is also closed.

AFC pilot identified; search continues

FROM THE ARKANSAS FORESTRY COMMISSION:

Mena, Ark. – AFC pilot, Jake Harrell, failed to make a scheduled check-in with AFC Central Dispatch in Malvern yesterday after 1:11 p.m. Harrell was flying a regularly scheduled detection flight from Malvern to points throughout west Arkansas. His last known location was Oden, with supposed intent of traveling toward Wickes.

Putting pen to paper - literally; beginners get writer’s block too

Can you have “writer’s block” if you are not said writer? Yes, yes you can. Take it from me. We have started doing this thing in our editorial department where everyone gets to write a column...that includes myself. I would say I am not a writer by nature. I have taken all kinds of English/writing classes but that does not make me any more prepared for this. I journal often, that consists of a lot of gibberish, free form, whatever I want to say and no sense has to come from it. Once again, does not prepare me for this.

Soybean futures collapsed yesterday on news that Argentina received beneficial rains this week. March has violated trendline support near $12.70. Additional support is seen between $12.56 and $12.33. Longer-term the market will begin to become more focused on the 2014 U.S. crop. The current ratio for corn and soybean prices is at 2.5, anything above a 2.2 favors planting more soybeans.
