Hwy 270 chase nets drugs

A driver’s failure to dim his bright lights led to the confiscation of four small bags of crystal methamphetamine. The driver and a passenger fled the scene on foot and at press time had not been located, according to a report from the HSC Sheriff’s Office.

Maudie M. Combs celebrates 91st birthday

Maudie M. Combs, wife of the late Alonzo W. Combs “Great Thunderbird,” celebrated her 90th birthday, Feb. 27, with celebrations at the Senior Adult Center, karaoke at Phil’s Place and a dinner with her son Mitchell at Cracker Barrel in Benton. Maudie has three children, a son Mitchell (Glenda) and daughters Ruzema Hughes (Johnny) and Capella Combs Demoret; five grandchildren, Mitchell Jr., Michael, Layton, Joanie and the late Valena; four great-grandchildren, John, Carlin, Rachel and Kayla; and one great-great-grandchild, Noah. She looks forward to this spring and planting her beautiful zinnia garden. (Photo submitted)

Toast and Roast honors Clem, earns funding for hospital

Phil Clem was honored – and the subject of some good-natured kidding – at the Hot Spring County Medical Foundation’s annual toast and roast. Hospital administrator Sheila Williams said the event was just a little short of a total sell-out. The event raised more than $6,200 through its silent and live auctions, she said. Williams did not have the total earned through the event’s ticket sales at press time.

Parents often look in on their children while the kids are sleeping. Kids often look peaceful while asleep, and parents enjoy seeing them getting their needed slumber. However, some kids can struggle when it comes to getting their necessary rest.

Beebe joins other governors in opposing potential National Guard cuts

This past weekend, I participated in my final winter meeting of the National Governors Association in Washington, D.C. These meetings allow governors to come together to share ideas and discuss issues that our states face collectively. As you might expect, other governors approached me about the ground we have broken on health care in Arkansas, both with our Payment Improvement Initiative and with the Arkansas Private Option.
