Levi Jones, a 2014 Glen Rose High School graduate, was one of 20 western Arkansas students awarded a $1,000 academic scholarship from Farm Credit of Western Arkansas.
Jones is attending Arkansas Tech University this fall and plans to pursue an Agriculture Education degree. He is the son of John and Tara Jones of Malvern.
â€śWe proudly award this well-deserved scholarship in recognition of Leviâ€™s many academic accomplishments and student leadership,â€ť explains Farm Credit CEO Glen Manchester.
Brickfest is just a week away and things are falling into place, according to Brenda Weldon, music coordinator of the festival. Weldon put to rest rumors about any uncertainties regarding funding for scheduled entertainment. â€śSykes is the presenting sponsor as the biggest donor to the festival,â€ť she said. In addition to monetary donations, Sykes has also provided volunteers who will help with parking and other festival responsibilities, she said.

On Monday morning, Animal Control Officer Darren Finley helped the Malvern Police Department remove a bear from a tree on Earnest Street. Finley stated, â€śIt was about 180 pounds, a 2-year-old black bear.â€ť Finley said they used sedation and a rope system to get the bear out of the tree. Generally, he said, black bears are fairly docile. â€śTo me they are not a danger as long as you donâ€™t get in between mama and cubs,â€ť Finley added.

Beginning this month, HSC Health Unit will be hosting after-hour clinics to assist children in getting the necessary immunizations for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.
Immunization clinics will be held:
â€˘ June 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
â€˘ July 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
â€˘ Aug. 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
â€˘ Aug. 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
