Manhunt in Caddo Valley nets no results

November 7, 2013

CADDO VALLEY — A seven-hour manhunt for a suspect who highjacked a car in Little Rock ended Wednesday without success. However, the investigation as to who was responsible for the carjacking continued Thursday morning.

The suspect, identified as a black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants, was "nowhere to be found," Cpl. Sam Hart of the Arkansas State Police said Thursday morning. Authorities still do not know the suspect's identity.

Help is on the way

She would have done it for any of us, and probably did for some of us. Nevertheless, all the things that she did do for folks around here was very evident as the line during visitation showed. A lot of family and friends found out for the first time what she had quietly done for others over the years.
Her helping hands were never for her glory. She knew her time here on earth was short and part of her blessing was to be able to take care of her family’s future without her. She had time to say good-bye and prepare those that she loved for a life without a mother, wife and daughter.

Don't be a dummy

It is fairly simple to protect a child while at the same time readying them for the world. However, simple doesn’t always mean easy. Parents struggle with being a child’s friend or being their parent. Which one is more effective in raising an ethical hard working child?
When we are honest with ourselves and recollect the form of discipline that worked best on us, we might be surprised.

Kiwanis Trivia night? More like comedy night

October 29, 2013

Malvern Area Kiwanis Trivia night is an event I highly recommend. You get great food and a floor show. Besides that, the money from the meal and silent auction go to a great cause that focuses on kids.
Four-man teams from the community participated in the annual fundraising event. Susan Lafond, president of Kiwanis, said close to $1,000 was raised.

You Are Not Forgotten

September 20, 2013

Where does one begin in understanding the consequences of war for the service member or their families? The only place you can begin with is “Thank you.” We thank them with full honesty in our hearts for the sacrifice and loss given. We also thank them with full appreciation for the gift given to us that retains our freedoms. Sometimes we feel that we haven’t done enough or shown our appreciation enough to our veterans, especially when we find them homeless or improperly cared for in hospitals.

Just a game? Not so in Bismarck: Way of life

September 20, 2013

“Is he going to do it?” I prayed.
“He’s at the 30, the 20, the 10, touchdown Bismarck!” screamed the announcer.
Roaring from the Lion fans, stomping in the stands and the band coming to life set the whole stadium on fire.
Nate Asher, Shelby Orr and the Bismarck football team had made the play of the night and the first home game touchdown was in the books.
Thank you, Bismarck for giving me and my best friend another great moment in your community.
We were jumping up and down, grinning like kids and celebrating with our adopted town.

Smiles, handshakes and hugs from Malvernites

Have you met Rita Myers yet? Well, if you attend any of our churches in the area you probably will soon. I met her a year ago this month at a lunch held for the Malvern High School football team at a church I was attending. As we were putting the lunch together we became fast friends.
