Local health department sets after-hours clinics for child immunizations

June 13, 2014

Beginning this month, HSC Health Unit will be hosting after-hour clinics to assist children in getting the necessary immunizations for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.
Immunization clinics will be held:
• June 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• July 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
• Aug. 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
• Aug. 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Science Club: growing crystals

First-ever bull riding event set for Brickfest

For the first time ever, a professional bull riding event will be part of Brickfest activities. The event, called the Malvern Tire Co. Brickfest Bull Bash, is presented by Mahindra Tractors of Malvern on Saturday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Malvern Rodeo Arena. Gates open at 5 p.m.

Testimony given in ProMed/city suits

United States Magistrate Judge Barry A. Bryant heard testimony from ProMed Ambulance, LifeNet and the City of Malvern at the federal court building in Hot Springs on Wednesday, June 11. Bryant made no decision on ProMed’s motion for preliminary injunction or the City of Malvern’s motion to dismiss. Bryant said he expected to set a hearing relatively quickly, addressing both the injunction and the dismissal requests together.

Reggans appointed to JP position

Malvern resident Diana Reggans was recently appointed by Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe to the vacant District 5 position on the Hot Spring County Quorum Court after a vacancy was declared when David Smith resigned. Reggans was approved by the court in a regular meeting Tuesday evening and took her seat as Justice of the Peace that evening. Reggans’ appointment will end Dec. 31, 2014.

Library served more than 63,000 visitors last year

Recently, Malvern/Hot Spring County Library Regional Director Ashley Parker-Graves presented the library’s 2013 Annual Report to the HSC Quorum Court and to the Malvern City Council as mandated by state law. The report covers information collected from January to December of 2013 and was reported to the Arkansas State Library and the federal government.

Big cat investigation leads to unrelated arrest

After numerous sightings of a large cat around the Hot Spring County, an investigation by Arkansas Game and Fish Commission officers and Hot Spring County sheriff’s deputies led to an unrelated arrest.

MES wins $10,000 in music equipment

June 5, 2014

Malvern Elementary School received a $10,000 grant from “Keys + Kids” Piano Grant Program. Sara Bareilles and the VH1 Save the Music Foundation announced the winners on May 30. MES received a total of $10,000 worth of equipment for their music room. They were awarded a Yamaha NU1 upright hybrid piano, a Yamaha StagePass 600i portable PA system, and a Sure SM58 vocal microphone.
