Road recognition

Resident Engineer Tim Baber (right) of the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, presents Hot Spring County Judge Bill Scrimshire with a plaque from the Arkansas Asphalt Pavement Association in recognition for quality asphalt paving for two county roads in Region 5, CC Road and Amity Road. Farm Bureau claims adjusters win honors at recent conference

Above: Farm Bureau claims adjuster Michael McCrary (center) of Malvern was named the 2014 District Two Adjuster of the Year during the 61st annual Farm Bureau Claims Conference June 5 in Hot Springs. Forrest Fletcher (left), district two claims manager, and John Bonner (right), vice president of claims, presented the award to McCrary. The award is given annually to the adjuster in each of the nine claims districts who shows the most proficient job skills, outstanding leadership, professionalism and dedication during the previous year. Malvern Students of the Month honored at May school board meeting

Malvern Superintendent Brian Golden, back center, recently recognized the May Students of the Month at the school board meeting. Bear visits Earnest St.

On Monday morning, Animal Control Officer Darren Finley helped the Malvern Police Department remove a bear from a tree on Earnest Street. Finley stated, “It was about 180 pounds, a 2-year-old black bear.” Finley said they used sedation and a rope system to get the bear out of the tree. Generally, he said, black bears are fairly docile. “To me they are not a danger as long as you don’t get in between mama and cubs,” Finley added.

Local health department sets after-hours clinics for child immunizations

June 13, 2014

Beginning this month, HSC Health Unit will be hosting after-hour clinics to assist children in getting the necessary immunizations for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.
Immunization clinics will be held:
• June 17 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• July 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
• Aug. 5 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
• Aug. 12 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

First-ever bull riding event set for Brickfest

For the first time ever, a professional bull riding event will be part of Brickfest activities. The event, called the Malvern Tire Co. Brickfest Bull Bash, is presented by Mahindra Tractors of Malvern on Saturday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Malvern Rodeo Arena. Gates open at 5 p.m.
