Veterans tribute

May 22, 2014

The American Flag/Veterans Tribute (top photo) will be on display at the HSC Courthouse lawn until Tuesday, June 3. (Bottom photo) The removable/reusable display was developed by Tom Arnold, (center back) U.S. Army Master, Ret. as a fundraiser for a Malvern High School JROTC scholarship fund. Sheriff Ed Hollingsworth won 50.98 percent of the vote in his re-election bid for the Democratic nomination for Hot Spring County Sheriff. Malvern Mayor candidate Brenda Weldon garnered 50.58 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary, but with 33 absentee ballots left to verify and some paper ballots cast at the polls on Tuesday, percentages may change.

Bank of the Ozarks to officially take over Summit Bank

When Summit Bank opens on Monday, it will officially be Bank of the Ozarks, but local customers should not expect to see many visible changes, according to Brian Coston, president of Malvern’s Summit Bank.

Sirens to sound off on Wednesdays

May 16, 2014

The first Wednesday of each month is now when Malvern residents will hear the city’s early tornado warning alarms. There was a test done on Thursday on the siren at Carmichael Street and it is in working order, as are the other sirens in the city which are maintained by the Malvern Fire Department, according to Fire Chief Jeremy Harper. This alarm system has been in place since the late 1980s to early 1990s, he said.
