The Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC) met in Malvern to hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Nov. 13 at the chamber of commerce community room. They toured Flakeboard and Primelime on Wednesday, Nov. 12, and that night they gathered at Family Farm for a dinner with members of the community and elected officials. Musician Roy Hale was the entertainment for the 50 plus guests.
The HSC Quorum Court voted unanimously Thursday, Nov. 13, to adopt an ordinance making it illegal to house female prisoners in the county jail. The ordinance went on to declare that it would be considered a "malfeasance of office" if women prisoners were housed in the county facility. Sheriff Ed Hollingsworth reported that there were four females housed in the facility on Thursday.

Hot Spring County Sheriff's Deputies responded to calls Sunday, Nov. 9 on Lambert Road in the Bismarck area. With the assistance of Arkansas State Police, Clark County, Arkansas Park Police a subject was taken into custody with no officer or officer related injuries. The suspect was taken into custody after barricading himself into a building on the property with family members and allegedly shooting at other family members. At the time of this release all suspects are in custody and all deputies, troopers and law enforcement are back on duty safely.
Baptist Health Center-Hot Spring County is hosting a senior health fair on Wednesday, Nov. 12, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Malvern Senior Adut Center, 1800 West Moline Street.
Representatives from Baptist will offer free cholesterol, triglyceride and glucose testing, diabetic foot checks, pulmonary function testing and blood pressure checks.
Those who attend may register for door prizes that have been donated by 20 businesses and vendors that target seniors. The public is invited to participate in the senior health fair. For additional information, call Kelli Hopkins at (501) 332-7018.
Malvern Middle School will host a drop-in reception for local veterans on Tuesday, November 11, from 2:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. All local veterans to drop by for refreshments in their honor. Students will be available for guided tours of the building.

At a Tuesday press conference, Mike Slive announced that he will step down as commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, effective July 31, 2015. Slive is the SECâ€™s seventh commissioner and has held the position since 2002, yet he told SECSports.com that recent health concerns have made him reevaluate his priorities. Slive said, â€œI have been blessed in more ways than I can count and I will have as much passion for this job on my last day as I did on my first."
