Students speak up for skate park

Election commission receives Model 650

Hot Spring County Election Commission recently received a grant from the County Voting System Grant Fund in the amount of $15,212. The grant was used to purchase an ES&S Model 650, an easy-to-use, high-speed central paper ballot counter and vote tabulator that supports a full range of jurisdiction sizes and ballot complexities.

In the political rally held Friday, April 25, candidates running for office in the May primary and the November general election were on hand to present their ideas and to introduce themselves to the community.

No action after city investigation

Malvern Mayor Steve Northcutt says he will take no action regarding the completed investigation of several allegations about Malvern Street Department Superintendent Glenn McCloud. Northcutt said the investigation stemmed from a letter sent to the Arkansas Municipal League by a “disgruntled” former street department employee who had been terminated. Northcutt said he asked Malvern Chief of Police Donnie Taber to conduct an internal investigation regarding the letter’s allegations.

MES Field Day

Students braved the chilly, windy weather to take part in activities that ranged from a leaky pipe relay to hurdle races to jump ropes and hula hoops. No local damage reported from weekend storms

April 29, 2014

Malvern and Hot Spring County escaped damaging storms over the weekend, unlike the destruction a Sunday night tornado brought to Vilonia and Mayfllower. Barbara Key, administrative assistant to the Hot Spring County Judge, confirmed that Monday morning reports from personnel across the county indicated no local damage.

Cox announces re-election bid

April 29, 2014

Ernie Cox is the incumbent candidate for Hot Spring County Coroner.  He was born and raised in Hot Spring County and graduated Malvern High School.  After completing 1 1/2 years at Henderson State University, Cox was drafted into the US Army, serving two years as a medic, Chaplain’s assistant and on the Whitecoat Project of USAMRID (United States Army Research Institute of Infectious Diseases). With an Honorable discharge, Cox returned home to Malvern and worked eight months as an EMT for Hot Spring County Ambulance Service.

Graham announces candidacy for city attorney position

April 1, 2014

Current City Attorney James Lucas Graham has announced his candidacy for the Malvern City Attorney position and will be running against Cecilia Ashcraft for the Democratic nomination in the May Democratic Primary. Graham has served as Malvern’s city attorney since January 2013, and owns and operates the Graham Law Firm in Malvern. Graham previously gained experience in the areas of municipal law and governance while working for the Arkansas Municipal League and while serving as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Little Rock.
