December 12, 2013

Farm Bureau has announced the finalists for the 2013 Farm Bureau Awards and two names on the list are from Glen Rose High School.
Senior Kyle Petersen is a finalist for the 3A Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Mark Kehner is a finalist for the 3A Coach of the Year Award.
The Farm Bureau Awards honor Arkansas’ top offensive player, defensive player and coach of the year for each classification from 7A to 2A.

The Poyen Indians hosted the Cutter Morning Star Eagles Tuesday night and came away with a couple of big wins.
The senior high team used a big fourth quarter to erase a deficit and come away with a 73-67 victory in their first conference game of the season.

Glen Rose teams dominate Abundant Life

December 12, 2013

Last Thursday, the Glen Rose Beavers and Lady Beavers hosted Abundant Life, with both of the local teams coming away with big wins.
The Lady Beavers breezed their way through the Lady Owls by the score of 53-15.
Head coach Chris Smith said the team struggled in the beginning of the game on both sides of the ball.
“But after that we started to show some life,” Smith said.
Glen Rose led 15-6 after one quarter and pushed that lead to 29-8 at the half.

Lady Panthers finish second in tournament

December 12, 2013

The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers were just a few seconds away from doing something they couldn’t do last season — defeat Spring Hill.
The 2012-2013 Magnet Cove senior girls squad put together a months-long winning streak last season book-ended by losses to Spring Hill.
The Lady Panthers lost to Spring Hill twice in December last year and did not lose again until they faced the Lady Bears in the 2A state tournament.
In the championship game of the Summit Bank Shootout Wednesday night, the Lady Panthers had a chance to change that, but came up a couple of seconds short in a 49-48 loss.

This week's coach and games of the week

December 12, 2013

Last week’s winter weather caused all sorts of havoc with athletics (and just about everything else) in the state of Arkansas.
The high school playoffs were postponed for a week, which if you are a football fan is good news because the season will last another week.
Because the playoffs were delayed, this week there are two Games of the Week.
The first has been touched on already, and that is Friday night’s Class 3A semifinal playoff game between the Glen Rose Beavers and the Smackover Buckaroos.

Last Friday, I penned a column talking about how big of a weekend we were looking at in the world...
TUESDAY FOOTBALL WIS Raiders vs. Giants 6 p.m. WIS Cowboys vs. Broncos VOLLEYBALL 9th Grade...
