Lady Panthers survive to win district

May 6, 2014

The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers are the defending Class 2A state champions, but they had a hard time picking up the district tournament win against Poyen on Saturday.
After the two teams traded leads in the game, Magnet Cove pulled away for a 13-9 victory at Poyen.
The Lady Indians went up in the first inning 4-0, but Magnet Cove answered back in the bottom half of the inning with five runs of their own.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Panthers added two more runs to take a 7-4 lead and appeared to be pulling away.

Late game offense give Panthers the title

May 6, 2014

The Magnet Cove Panthers baseball team came away with the 5-2A District title on Saturday, but it wasn’t easy.
The Panthers defeated the hosting Poyen Indians 5-4, but Magnet Cove trailed for 6 2/3 innings of the game.
Magnet Cove was trailing 4-0 by the time the Panthers finally got on the board.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Gavin Porter hit a single to give the Panthers a base runner. But two outs later, it appeared as if this inning would go the same way the previous four had.

May 6, 2014

The Malvern Leopards entered the 7-4A District Tournament on Friday as the No. 4 seed, needing just one win to advance to the regional tournament.
Unfortunately for the Leopards, they were unable to get that win, falling 8-4 to Nashville at the tournament held at Ouachita Baptist University at Arkadelphia.
The Leopards were behind 6-0 before they got their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Nashville added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead.
