Jack McKay Softball Tournament cancelled

The Jack McKay Softball Tournament, which was scheduled to be held Saturday, May 31, at the Boys & Girls Club of Malvern and Hot Spring County, has been canceled. After many consecutive days of rain, the organizers of the event have canceled the tournament with no make-up date planned.

Ouachita River Challenge set for October

On Saturday, Oct. 11, the inaugural Ouachita River Challenge will be held in Malvern.
The event was created to showcase the beauty and natural resources found in Hot Spring County.
The Ouachita River Challenge, which is open to individuals as well as teams, will include kayaking (Ouachita River), bicycling (Lake Catherine State Park) and running. The entry fee will be $75.

Peewee football camps upcoming

A pair of peewee football camps are planned to begin next week.
The first is the Little Indian Football Camp at Poyen High School’s sports complex.
The Little Indian Football Camp will be held Monday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 4 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. each day.
The camp is for students who will be in kindergarten through seventh grade in the 2014-2015 school year.

Malvern Country Club 4-Ball Tournament

The Malvern National Bank-Malvern Country Club 4-Ball golf tournament will be held today, May 30, through Sunday, June 1.
At 5:30 p.m. today, the Malvern Country Club will hold the two-man shootout.
The 4-Ball tournament will begin at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 31 and at 8 a.m. on Sunday, June 1.

Lady Panthers survive to win district

The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers are the defending Class 2A state champions, but they had a hard time picking up the district tournament win against Poyen on Saturday.
After the two teams traded leads in the game, Magnet Cove pulled away for a 13-9 victory at Poyen.
The Lady Indians went up in the first inning 4-0, but Magnet Cove answered back in the bottom half of the inning with five runs of their own.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Panthers added two more runs to take a 7-4 lead and appeared to be pulling away.

Late game offense give Panthers the title

The Magnet Cove Panthers baseball team came away with the 5-2A District title on Saturday, but it wasn’t easy.
The Panthers defeated the hosting Poyen Indians 5-4, but Magnet Cove trailed for 6 2/3 innings of the game.
Magnet Cove was trailing 4-0 by the time the Panthers finally got on the board.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Gavin Porter hit a single to give the Panthers a base runner. But two outs later, it appeared as if this inning would go the same way the previous four had.

Malvern baseball season comes to an end

The Malvern Leopards entered the 7-4A District Tournament on Friday as the No. 4 seed, needing just one win to advance to the regional tournament.
Unfortunately for the Leopards, they were unable to get that win, falling 8-4 to Nashville at the tournament held at Ouachita Baptist University at Arkadelphia.
The Leopards were behind 6-0 before they got their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Nashville added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

Glen Rose junior Aimee Wright represented Arkansas well at the 2014 USAW Girls Folkstyle Nationals over the weekend, coming away with a third-place finish in the 18U division.
