Local museum gets grant for building repairs

Doug Richard, right, manager of Walmart, recently presented a grant check for $1,000 to Janis West, Hot Spring County Museum director. West said the money will be used to make some much-needed repairs to The Boyle House. The museum is also still accepting recipes for its historical cookbook until May 14. HSC sticks by Amendment 83

The Hot Spring County Clerk’s will not be granting same-sex marriage licenses. The class action suit does not apply to Hot Spring County, stated County Attorney Randy Ohm. HSC is still under Amendment 83, which is Arkansas’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex unions. HSC will wait on the Supreme Court’s decision.

Early voting continues through Friday, 8 am. to 6 p.m. each day and on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturday, May 10, 11 people cast ballots. When I was a kid, I read all the Erma Bombeck books I could get my hands on. She was the witty/sarcastic/funny-as-heck mom who wrote syndicated columns and was featured on one of the national morning shows. I thought that being a mom would be just like the tall tales she wrote of in books like If Life’s a Bowl of Cherries Why am I Always in the Pits and The Grass is Always Greener on the Other Side of the Septic Tank.
Boy, was I right.

Vehicle theft ring suspected

The recent thefts and altered color of several vehicles in the Bismarck area have prompted Hot Spring County Sheriff’s investigators to believe they are part of a theft ring.

Irwin Road residents express concerns

Residents of Irwin Road contacted both the county judge and 911 on a Sunday in March, when their road was impassible due to an abundance of mud that developed from highway department dumping. The county sent workers out to repair the road to passable conditions. The residents complaining of all the dust, mud and damage to cars met with Hot Spring County Judge Bill Schrimshire and representatives from the highway department on Thursday, May 8.
