Ouachita River Challenge set for October

On Saturday, Oct. 11, the inaugural Ouachita River Challenge will be held in Malvern.
The event was created to showcase the beauty and natural resources found in Hot Spring County.
The Ouachita River Challenge, which is open to individuals as well as teams, will include kayaking (Ouachita River), bicycling (Lake Catherine State Park) and running. The entry fee will be $75.

ProMed sues city, LifeNet

ProMed Ambulance filed a motion for preliminary injunction in federal court around noon on Friday, May 30, in hopes of preventing the implementation of LifeNet as the city’s exclusive ambulance provider. ProMed also filed a “Brief in Support of Motion for Preliminary Injunction,” a “Summons in Civil Action” to the City of Malvern and LifeNet, Inc., and a “Verified Complaint for Declaratory Judgment, and Preliminary and Permanent Injunction for Damages” which asks the federal court to declare the city’s contract with LifeNet null and void.

Magnet Cove hires Nail as elementary principal

Wednesday, May 28 the Magnet Cove School Board held a special meeting in the central office board room at 5:30 p.m. for the purpose of filling vacant positions within the school district. With all members in attendance, the board voted unanimously on the following applicants: Caroline Nail as elementary principal, Taylor Revels as secondary English teacher for grades 7th and 8th and Quinton Revels as elementary teacher for 5th grade. Superintendent Gail McClure reported that all positions are now filled.

Peewee football camps upcoming

May 30, 2014

A pair of peewee football camps are planned to begin next week.
The first is the Little Indian Football Camp at Poyen High School’s sports complex.
The Little Indian Football Camp will be held Monday, June 2 through Wednesday, June 4 from 8 to 10:30 a.m. each day.
The camp is for students who will be in kindergarten through seventh grade in the 2014-2015 school year.
