Houses deemed as unfit, unsafe

A resolution declaring two structures in Malvern as unfit and unsafe was presented to the Malvern City Council Monday night.

The properties called “unsafe, unsanitary and unfit for human habitation” were 1528 East Mill Street and 1625 Harper Street.

The fate of the properties could be decided at the full Malvern City Council meeting Monday, July 8 at 7 p.m.
The meetings are held in the Malvern City Hall in the courthouse.

Independence Day celebration begins today in Oaklawn Park

It’s easy to kickoff the July 4th holiday early this year at Oaklawn’s Spa Blast presented by Coco Beverage Inc. Oaklawn is opening its infield today, July 3 at 5:30 p.m. for the event featuring a concert by country music icon Lee Greenwood and fireworks display.

Spa Blast will include a Kids Zone with inflatable rides, concessions, misting tent and live music earlier in the evening by up and coming local country group Downday.

Guests are encouraged to park in the North Lot for easier access to the infield. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. No coolers will be allowed.

Fourth of July Traffic Report

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Four work zones will greet Arkansas motorists on major state highways during the holiday weekend, but state highway officials say Interstate 40 between Little Rock and Memphis will have all lanes open.

The state Highway and Transportation Department on Tuesday urged drivers to be careful while in the construction areas.

Traffic on I-40 near Hazen has been snarled for months because of construction around the White River bridge, but Highway Department Director Scott Bennett said work is nearly complete and all lanes will be open.
