Jr. Babe Ruth registration underway

The Hot Spring County Junior Babe Ruth baseball league will be signing players for the upcoming season at 2 p.m. Saturday at the ballfield.
The league is for players ages 13-15. The sign-up fee is $60.
The league is also in need of umpires.

T-Ball registration underway

The Boys Club of Malvern and Hot Spring County is registering players for the upcoming T-ball season.
Registrations are being held from 12-6 p.m. Monday through Friday, now through Friday, March 9. Dues and fees are to be paid at registration and players will need a copy of their birth certificate for verification.
T-ball is for boys and girls playing ages 4-6. Playing age is the age of the child on April 30, 2012.
There will be a 4-year-old league and a 5 and 6-year-old combined league.
Potential coaches must apply and attend the organizational meeting in late March.

4A Regional Bracket Announced

The Malvern Lady Leopards were upended by Pulaski Academy in the championship game of Saturday's district tournament at Malvern High School. The Lady Leopards will enter the regional tournament at Dumas High School as a No. 2 seed. The Malvern senior boys will be there as well, as a No. 3 seed.

The Bismarck Lady Lions came up short in the district tournament championship game at Bismarck High School, but still earned a No. 2 seed in the upcoming regional tournament at Prescott High School. The Bismarck senior boys also qualified for the regional tournament as a No. 4 seed.

The Magnet Cove Panthers and Poyen Lady Indians each earned a No. 1 spot in the Regional Tournament to be held at Magnet Cove High School this week. The Magnet Cove Lady Panthers and Poyen Indians earned No. 2 seeds.

2012 State wrestling championships

The 2012 Arkansas high school wrestling championships were held at the Jack T. Stephens Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock last Friday and Saturday.
Two schools from this area participated (Bismarck High School and Glen Rose High School), with mixed results.
Bismarck sent seven wrestlers to the event and placed four in the top five of their respective divisions.
Masin Sharp placed fifth in the 113-pound division.
He received byes in the first two rounds, then got a technical fall victory over Mathew Bain of Beebe High School in the quarterfinal round.
