Teams from 14 different schools assembled at Malvern High School on Wednesday for the second James King Memorial 7-on-7 Tournament.
The tournament is named for former Malvern Leopard football player James King, who tragically lost his life in 2012. The tournament was started as a way to remember and honor King, who was a beloved member of the community as much as he was a talented football player.
Three teams from this area participated in the event — Malvern, Glen Rose and Poyen. The hosting Leopards made it as far as the semifinals of bracket play before getting eliminated by the eventual champions, the Bryant Hornets.
The tournament started at 9 a.m. on Wednesday and carried on past 6 p.m., giving fans in attendance, as well as the players, their much-needed football fix.
