Since the 1950s, the Malvern Little League has provided kids in the Hot Spring County area a place to play baseball, and it is difficult to find someone who has not been affiliated with the Little League in some shape or form.
As time went on, the condition of the Malvern Little League Complex at City Park deteriorated, which is something that was immediately addressed by the newly elected board.
Crews have been working nonstop on giving local kids a championship-caliber location to play, so it will match the level of play. Last summer, the Malvern Little League All-Stars advanced to the Southwest Regional of the Little League World Series in Waco, Texas.
Even with work still to be done before opening day (Saturday, April 12), the difference is definitely noticeable.
As you drive toward the fields, the first noticeable change is the new sign designating the area as the Sykes Complex, thanks to a partnership between the Malvern Little League and Sykes Enterprises in Malvern.
â€śSykes and Anthony Bloom [Malvern Sykes site director] have partnered with us and it was renamed Sykes Complex,â€ť said Todd Phipps, safety officer and fundraising manager for the Malvern Little League.
Although the entire complex is now named for Sykes, the original names for each individual field will stay the same.
