Percy Fitzhugh left this world to be with the Lord in Heaven on Tuesday, February 19, 2013.
He was born on November 12, 1925 in Malvern, Arkansas to Joseph and Effie (Paul) Fitzhugh. He grew up with his family on a farm where they produced most of what they ate. His mother died when he was young so he was raised by his dad and older siblings. He later followed his dad and sister to Bakersfield, California where he lived until 1999 when he moved to Fresno.
Having cerebral palsy from birth, Percy always dealt with many challenges in life, but with his determination and a zest for life, he lived independently and also ran a small printing business for many years. His spirited and friendly personality won over many admirers and friends wherever he went. Words that describe Percy are flirtatious, stubborn and fun loving. He will be greatly missed.
Percy is survived by his niece, Linda Pickett and husband, Don of Friant, nephews, Tom Ott of Fresno and Gene and Mike Fitzhugh of Arkansas. He was preceded by his parents Joseph and Effie, his sisters Phelma Ott Simmons, and Eunice Vaughn and brothers Obie and Vernon Fitzhugh.
The family would like to thank all the staff of the California Armenian Home for all their loving care since 2009. Their true compassion and concern for Percy touched out hearts and brought comfort and happiness to his final years.
Services will be held at the Clovis Funeral Chapel this Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 11:30 A.M. His final resting place will be Malvern Arkansas at the Damascus Cemetery next to his parents. Donations can be made to the California Armenian Home or Nancy Hinds Hospice in Fresno. Services are pending with Regency Funeral Home in Malvern.
