Little things

It’s the little things
in life that count
The little things that
fill our day,
Just these simple
things we do
Maybe the kind of
words we say.
Little things like
a friendly smile
To someone
alone or sad;
An arm around
the shoulder and
a gentle squeeze
Just might make
someone glad.
Maybe a knock on
a door of one alone
Or maybe flowers
bright and gay;
To someone lonely
you can bring cheer
With just a simple
bouquet.

A little greeting
dropped here or there
On which everything
depends,
Little pleasures
we can all share
Like the joy of making
new friends.
Old friends need little things too
Like a smile, a kind word, or good deed,
Just to let them know
they are thought of
With the little things
we all need.
