Debbie Baker from Malvern has been named Secondary Counselor of the Year for the Southwest Region of the Arkansas School Counselors Association. Baker is the 11th and 12th grade counselor at Malvern High School.
“We are pleased to recognize Mrs. Baker as the Counselor of the Year,” said Virginia Miller, President of the Southwest Region. She has developed a comprehensive school counseling program at her school that is a model for other schools in our state. She has established a successful Career Night program for her students and parents and developed the TEAM program to support teachers as advisors and mentors for students.” Baker was recognized at an awards luncheon on June 9 in Little Rock during the Summer Conference of the Arkansas School Counselors Association and the Arkansas Department of Education. Baker is now eligible for recognition as the Arkansas School Counselor Secondary Counselor of the Year. The state award will be presented at the Arkansas Counseling Association conference in November in Ft. Smith.
