Derek “Deek” Baswell, age 36, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born June 6, 1972, in Little Rock, the son of Don Wayne and Judith Dawn (Loy) Baswell, Sr. 

Derek was a Bismarck High School Class of 1990 graduate, a U.S. Marine veteran of Desert Storm and currently a Surgical Tech at Health Park Hospital in Hot Springs. He was very active in the Bismarck Booster Club, Bismarck Little League Baseball  as a Coach, recently in the Arkansas Officials Association and member of the First Baptist Church of Bismarck.
He was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents and paternal grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Toni Aleshia (Jacobs) Baswell, to whom he was married Aug. 24, 1996. Also by his sons, who had the most incredible daddy, Jacob Dalton, Jeremiah Blue and Gabriel Ernest Don Baswell; goddaughter, Amber Nix; his mother, Judith Baswell of New Sharon, Maine; brother, Wayne Baswell and wife, Andrea of Bismarck; sister, DeAnne (Baswell) Douin and husband, Joseph of New Sharon, Maine; grandmother, Omega Baswell of Hensley; his mother and father in-law, Richard and Debra Jacobs of Cutter; brother-in-law, Steven Jacobs of Poyen and numerous aunts, uncles, niece and nephews.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 3 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Regency.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4 at the Hickory Grove Baptist Church with Brother Bobby Cook officiating. Burial will follow in First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Joseph Douin, Wayne and Dakota Baswell, Steven Jacobs, Darrell Lambert, Alan Hughes, Joey Nix and Shane Yarbrough.
Honorary pallbearers are J.D., Blue and Gabe Baswell, Darin Douin, Destiny Baswell, doctors and staff of Health Park Hospital, Bismarck Little League, Bill Heck, Duke Evans, James Hale, John Paul Stokes, Rodney Jacobs, Justin Collie, Carl Gordon, John Duncan, James Avant, Levi Vincent and Rob Camaras.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Baswell Boys Fund at Southern Bancorp Locations.
