Hot Spring County officials sworn into office |

By Kim Hall Staff Writer The new year started out with a real bang as Judge David (Mac) Glover of the Arkansas Court of Appeals swore in Hot Spring County Circuit Judge Chris Williams for his second term in office.
With camaraderies and an exchange of congratulations, Judge Glover assisted Judge Williams with his robe, in which he began his duties as judge, swearing the elected officials of Hot Spring County. Judge Williams began by swearing in County Judge Bill Schrimshire for another term in office. Judge Schrimshire gave a brief speech thanking the people of Hot Spring County for their support and stated that he was looking forward to serving them. Said Scrimshire, “We are here to serve, not to be served.” Sandy Boyette was sworn in as the County Clerk for Hot Spring County. Boyette started her term by proceeding to the table where she assisted others in signing their papers of office. Williams continued with Sue Jones being sworn in for another term as Hot Spring County Circuit Clerk. Mary Cansler was next to be sworn in as Treasurer for Hot Spring County. Judge Williams then called Ryan Burris to the podium and swore him in as the Sheriff of Hot Spring County. Judge Williams then asked all of the Deputies and Jailers attending the ceremonies to come forward and be sworn into office. A large gathering of officers from the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s office came forward and were sworn into office. The newly elected Constables of Hot Spring County were next to be sworn in. Valerie Hearn was then sworn in for another term as Collector for Hot Spring County, followed by Blake Riggan as County Assessor. Hot Spring County Coroner Ernie Cox was sworn in for another term in office. Cox has been the Coroner for Hot Spring County since 1980. Williams called all of the members of the Hot Spring County Quorum Court that were present forward to swear them into their positions as Justices of the Peace for the County. Judge Williams spoke briefly on the position of District Judge and the tremendous job that has been done by Judge Burnett. Williams called District Judge Sherry Burnett forward where he swore her in as District Judge for Hot Spring County. Judge Williams assisted Judge Burnett with her rob. Judge Williams mentioned that the members of the Malvern City Council would be given their oath of office during their first session of the year. Williams then called David Kizzia forward and swore him in as City Attorney for the City of Malvern. Williams made a brief speech, thanking everyone for attending, and called the ceremonies to a close.
