By Mark Bivens — Editor Hot Spring County Sheriff Ryan Burris has announced his intentions to seek re-election.
Burris said he has achieved several goals during the past two years. One of those goals was to get the sheriff’s department within compliance to receive grants. “My next step is to get closer to the community — going to the schools and step it up with the senior citizens.” Burris said he would like the opportunity to speak to the community on a regular basis. Another accomplishment was to stay within the department’s budget, which he said he has achieved. Burris said grant money the department receives will go toward the purchase of bullet proof vests for the officers, a new radio system in compliance with the FCC for 2012 and a department website. “The Arkansas Attorney General’s Office attempted to assist the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office on three occasions by letter and attempted phones calls to get the Department in compliance with Arkansas Act 1207 of 2003,” Burris stated. “The Department finally became compliant after I took office and met the Jan. 16, 2009, deadline.” Burris graduated from Lakeside High School in 1994 and from Garland County Community College with an associate degree in 1997.
