By James Leigh — Staff Writer A Texas man was arrested recently after he allegedly stole copper from an Entergy substation.
According to a report from the Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Department, Arnold Wayne Sessom Jr., 35, was arrested after his truck was found loaded with aluminum poles and a large quantity of copper wire. Around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, Deputy T.J. Burnett was dispatched to Hwy. 51 after an Entergy employee had discovered a white truck inside the fence of the sub-station at Smoke Ridge Road. The employee told dispatch that the truck was loaded with lumber, and he then began to follow the truck along Hwy. 51 toward Hot Springs. When Burnett arrived, he located the suspect’s vehicle in a grassy area at the intersection of Hwy. 51 and Beaver Lakes Road, but the driver was not with the vehicle. Burnett located six aluminum poles in the bed of the truck along with a large amount of copper wire. While Burnett was searching for the truck’s driver, an area resident arrived at the scene, telling the deputy that a man had come to his residence asking for help pulling his truck out of the ditch. The truck was then impounded by the Sheriff’s Department. Around 11:30 p.m. that night, Burnett was dispatched to the area near Magnet Cove Baptist Church due to a suspicious person, and the man, later identified as Sessom, matched the description given by both the Entergy employee and the resident from Beaver Lakes Road. Both men were then contacted by deputies to verify that Sessom was the man who had asked for help, and upon arrival, the resident positively identified him. The Entergy employee also identified the man as the one who closed the gate of the substation. Sessom was then arrested and transported to the HSC Jail where he remains on a $10,000 bond.
