Leopards improve to 2-0 with win at Nashville Tournament |

By LaJuan Mooney — Sports Editor NASHVILLE—Not everybody can say that they have defeated the Razorbacks and the Longhorns in the same week, but the Leopards now have those bragging rights with Monday’s win over Arkansas High and Thursday’s win over Texas High.
The Malvern Leopards extended their record to 2-0 with a 6-2 victory over Texas High in the Nashville Tournament on Thursday. Cody Elrod got the win pitching five innings. Elrod gave up two runs on five hits with 1 strike out. Dustin Lawrence came in to pitch the last two innings for the save. Lawrence tossed three strike-outs and gave up no runs on one hit. Malvern was first to score with a run by Patrick Lewallen in the bottom of the first. Lewallen doubled to start the inning. Jon Whitt Golden reached base on a walk. Both runners advanced on a passed ball to put runners at second and third for Malvern. Jacob Keeney knocked a double that was over the centerfielder’s head to score Lewallen. In the top of the third, Texas High played two to take the lead 2-1. With two outs in the bottom of the third, Malvern’s Jared Davis hit a high fly ball to left field that was bobbled, which put Keeney at third and Davis at second. James King went in to run for Davis. Colton Welch roped one to right scoring Keeny and King to give the lead back to Malvern, 3-2. Eric Jones led off the fourth for Malvern with a line drive to third that was caught. Then Dustin Lawrence followed with another line drive to third that was also caught. With two outs Lewallen picked up a base hit to reach first base. He then stole second. Golden reached first after a sharp hit to the short stop that was bobbled allowing Leawllen to score. Keeney smacked a double to right field that bounced off the wall driving in Golden to make it 5-2 MHS. Dallas DelaCruz, in to run for Keeney, advanced to third on a passed ball then scored on another pitch that got past the catcher for the final of 6-2. The Leopards will play again Saturday at 12:30 p.m. against the winner of the Mena and Robinson game. Lewallen finished with two doubles and a single. Keeney also had three hits with two doubles and a single. Welch, Lawrence and Henry Meyers all singled.  James King rounds third on his way home in Monday’s win over the Arkansas High Razorbacks.
