VIDEO: SEC Is 1st Conference To Put 4 In Top 5 Of AP Poll
The Southeastern Conference has reached a new milestone in The Associated Press college football poll, becoming the first league to place four teams in the top five ? all from the western division. Mississippi State stayed No. 1 after a weekend off. Alabama jumped three spots to No. 4 after a 59-0 victory against Texas A&M. Auburn moved up a spot to No. 5 during a bye week, taking advantage of losses by previously unbeaten Notre Dame and Baylor.
VIDEO: SEC Commissioner Mike Slive To Retire In 2015
At a Tuesday press conference, Mike Slive announced that he will step down as commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, effective July 31, 2015. Slive is the SEC’s seventh commissioner and has held the position since 2002, yet he told SECSports.com that recent health concerns have made him reevaluate his priorities. Slive said, “I have been blessed in more ways than I can count and I will have as much passion for this job on my last day as I did on my first."
The Hot Spring County flu clinic scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24 at the fairgrounds has been postponed due to a delay in shipmet from the flu vaccine’s distributor. The new flu clinic date will be announced as soon as it is rescheduled.
The Arkansas Department of Health recommends getting a flu vaccine wherever it is available and says it is important for pregnant women to get the vaccine. Individuals wishing to get the vaccine at the county health unit should call (501) 332-6972 to ensure it is available.
The Malvern Daily Record is celebrating Veterans Day by honoring those who have served in our nation’s military. Submit your service member’s photo along with name, branch of service, place of service and dates served and also note whether the veteran is living or deceased.
