Robert Franklin Taft, age 64 of Malvern, died Saturday, February 2, 2013 at his residence.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on May 10, 1948 to the late Calvin W. Taft and Evangeline Walters Taft. Reared and receiving his early education in Malvern, he later attended Henderson State University. Bob was a Viet Nam veteran. He served in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corps. Bob retired from the United States Postal Service in 2004 after 23 years of employment. He was the widower of the late Barbara Pierce Taft, to whom he was married on February 5, 1977. She preceded him in death on February 15, 2008.
Survivors include: his daughters, Janey Welch of Malvern, Wendy Cook and her husband Jason, of Malvern; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Susan Taft, Steven and Mary Ann Taft, and Gary and Bettie Taft; two sisters, Janett Mullins and her husband, Ray; and Patricia Taft; six grandchildren, Devin Manis, Jessica Robinson, Michael Hixson, Amanda Hixson, Robert Hixson, and Lily Cook; three great-grandchildren, Jack, Levi, and Brayden Robinson; and numerous relatives of the Walters and Gibbs families of Hot Spring County.
Bob was also preceded in death by a brother, Russell Taft.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday evening, February 6, 2013, from six until eight o’clock at J. A. Funk Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be at one o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 9, 2013 in the Harp Cemetery with Brother Paul Grigsby officiating, and with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
