District tournaments underway

April 26, 2013

Two local teams played their first games of the district tournament season yesterday, with both moving on to the next round.
In baseball, the Poyen Indians dug themselves out of a 2-0 first-inning hole to earn an 11-2 win over Mount Ida, while the Glen Rose softball team made short work of E-Stem 11-1 yesterday.
Those two wins set up a big day of baseball and softball today as the district tournaments roll on.

The sports pages needs the community's help

April 26, 2013

There are few things on the planet that I enjoy more than bringing all of you the latest local sports scores and stories.
But this time of year it can be especially hard to make sure that everyone gets their information into the newspaper.
With spring sports alone, I am covering 15 different leagues (high school baseball/softball/soccer, several Little Leagues, youth softball and T-ball) that include roughly 103 teams.
That means I’m out every night taking pictures of games throughout the county. But for the most part, I can’t get to everyone.

Malvern teams split with CAC

April 12, 2013

On Monday, Malvern’s baseball and softball teams made a trip to Little Rock to take on Central Arkansas Christian in a conference matchup.
The Lady Leopards came from behind to win their game 9-8, but the Leopards couldn’t mount a big enough rally and fell by the score of 3-2.
In the softball game, Malvern scored the first run in the top of the first inning when Macy Holyfield reached on a base hit and was driven home by a Koree Walsh double.
Tayonna Bailey was on the mound for Malvern and held CAC scoreless in the first inning.
