Decisions on Medicaid, highways early next year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson says he hopes to decide early next year on his proposals for addressing highway funding and when to hold a special session on the state's Medicaid expansion.

Hutchinson told reporters Thursday he'll decide after the start of the new year when to hold a special session on the future of the state's hybrid Medicaid expansion, which uses federal funds to purchase private insurance for low-income residents. A legislative task force is expected to issue its recommendations later this month on the program, and Hutchinson has called for imposing new restrictions on its qualifications and benefits.

The Republican governor said he'll make his own recommendations on highway funding sometime in January. A task force created to study funding for roads offered several options last month.
