Hot Spring Co. Historical Society welcomes Sandage

Sandage is a songwriter, historian, and retired teacher who also brought his guitar and shared several songs he wrote pertaining to his 25-year-long journey of researching the area and ways of life of the Caddo Indians and early European explorers and settlers. Sandage has received invaluable assistance from members of the HSC Historical Society, Danna Carver, in particular, in gathering data and authentic stories about the people and events of Hot Spring County.

Before Sandage began his presentation, HSCHS President Melissa Phillips presented Kinney Black with the Hot Spring County Historical Society’s 2021 Certificate of Appreciation for his continual and crucial financial support. Phillips also acknowledged in absentia Kenneth Farber, John Allen Funk, and James Wetherington, all of whom could not be in attendance that evening but whose support has been vital to preserving the history of Hot Spring County.

Sandage then took center stage to share the wealth of knowledge he has accumulated pertaining to the lives and history of the native Caddo Indians that thrived here for thousands of years, the early Spanish and French explorers who discovered the area in the mid-1540s, and the European settlers who found their way to Hot Spring County in the early 1800s.

 “If you don’t think your community has stories, you’re dead wrong. You do a little poking around, you ask the right people, and that’s key, and you’ll find that wherever it is you’re standing, there’s a story,” Sandage stated.
